ADePT (Ver. 2025)

Reviewed and updated in 2025, the Addiction Medicine e‑Practice Test (ADePT) is an evidence-based, referenced online practice exam designed to support both certification and recertification preparation. The test includes 186 questions covering all 17 ABPM Addiction Medicine Core Content Categories.

ADePT closely mirrors the structure and rigor of the actual ABPM exam. Each time you complete the practice test, you receive detailed feedback on correct and incorrect answers, helping identify knowledge gaps and reinforce key concepts. Users have unlimited retake opportunities, making ADePT a valuable tool for repeated self‑assessment and preparation.

Once logged in, you must first review the Welcome section. A checkmark will appear as you complete each required step. You can then access the practice test. Refer to the Course FAQ under Course Details for helpful tips.

Some helpful tips:

  • Allocate approximately 2-3 hours of time if you intend to answer all 186 questions in one sitting. You can stop at any time and come back to where you left off. Your work will be saved. 
  • Treat this examination as you would at the actual testing center (minimize distractions, find a quiet place, be well rested). There is no time limit to complete the practice test.  
  • The practice test addresses all 17 core content areas included in the American Board of Preventive Medicine Addiction Medicine certification examination.
  • When you have reached the final question (#186), you will be asked to ANSWER & SUBMIT. A popup message will appear asking if you are sure you want to proceed. If you are ready to submit your answers for an assessment summary, select CONFIRM. You will receive immediate results.
    • Select VIEW RESULTS to review all answers (correct and incorrect). 
      • If you did not pass, you can take the practice test again when you are ready by selecting Table of Contents, then select Practice Test / RETRY to begin again. Once you re-start the test, you will need to answer each question again, not just the incorrect questions.
      • Upon passing you can proceed to the EVALUATION page to access the Core Content Listing. It is recommended that you download this document to use to compare your results to assess your areas of strengths and weaknesses related to the 17 ABPM Core Content Categories. 
    • You have unlimited retake opportunities. 
  • There is no CME awarded for completion of this educational activity.
